Welcome to BEYUNIQUE

BEYUNIQUE IS AN ETHOS OF LIFE, FOUNDED BY LUCY YUN IN 2010. IT IS NOT DERIVED FROM BEY-ONCE, BUT IS CREATED FROM LUCY'S LAST NAME, YUN, COMBINED WITH HER MOTTO OF LIFE TO BE UNIQUE.

About

WHAT IS BEYUNIQUE?

BEYUNIQUE is an ethos of life founded by Lucy Yun. Since she was very young, she has been non-stop searching her soul. Her never-ending journeys continued from personality tests to travelling throughout Europe, Asia, Oceania and North America. One thing was very clear- she always yearned to be herself; not to be swayed by mega trends, brainwashed by mass media, or influenced by celebrities. When she moved to Vancouver in 2010, she created BEYUNIQUE, which means to be YUN (herself) and to BE UNIQUE. A decade has flown by, BEYUNIQUE still stands as a place for Lucy's self-expressionism.

We loved her so much as our graphic designer on a project that offered her to work work with us in-house as a Creative and Marketing Lead. We would highly recommend Lucy for her gorgeous design sense, efficiency, and professionalism. Did I mention she is super fun and sweet too?! Thank you Lucy for bringing our creative projects to fruition.

[Event] The Kit Compact Goes National

Hello Everyone! I have an exciting news to share! I have become one of the three contributors for the Kit and Compact Magazine which is weekly/monthly printed publication distributed for FREE. It is originally based in Toronto, now expanding to four different Canadian cities including Vancouver. On September 12th, all the contributors gathered and celebrated its launch at H&M Pacific Centre, where local bloggers and influencers, Shelly of Shellure and Josh Langston of The Social Life made a lovely appearance for us. Currently, I am working on a fun project for Compact magazine that will be issued next month. I cannot wait to share what it is! Follow along @beyunique to stay tuned!

With Josh, who is always stylish, and has awesome shoes collection!

[Event] BEYUNIQUE BIRTHDAY BRUNCH BASH

I can't believe it's September and fall is here already. Although this year's wasn't as good as last year's months-long-beautifully-sunny-summer, I did try to get the most out of it. The highlight of the summer I'd say would be my birthday brunch bash back in July which I planned a month in advance (yes, I can be that planning-freak.)

It was held in the early morning of July 9th. I took a cab to L'abattoir as it started to rain, then walked by the crazy "crack market" that blocked the entire Carrall Street. When I arrived at the atrium, which is located at the far backside of my favourite restaurant that is an Instagrammers' paradise of #IhaveThisThingWithFloors, I began to see lovely faces that I wanted to see for my birthday.

When I compiled a list of people in a month prior to the event, I honestly did not know what to expect. Thankfully, everyone was mingling and chatting. Once relieved, L'abattoir's famous bakery basket was shown by our lovely server.

By 11:00am, we were all set for brunching. I ordered a breakfast burger which is one of my favourite brunch dishes at L'abattoir. Poached eggs with smoked pork belly appeared to be the most popular item at the table.

I would like to say thanks for everyone who took time to celebrate my birthday. This event was truly close to my heart, and having you all made it even more memorable and special. I also would like to thank Paul Grunberg, who helped me make this happen smoothly. At last but the least, special thanks to Luis of Whentheyfindus who allowed me to keep this memory forever by capturing the precious event of my life. Thank you. I feel so fortunate to have you all in my life.

Love you all,

[Interior Design] Gentle Monster Flagship in Seoul

You've probably heard it before, but those of you who haven't read my previous post, I will give you a little bit of my story. I have been wearing glasses since I was in grade 5, mainly because I was jealous of my sister's look. I remember she looked very smart and edgy. So I went to the eye doctor and got my first dorky looking glasses. I was happy, though, as I got what I wanted. Now, glasses have been an inseparable part of my life. Some of my friends are encouraging me to get LASIK done. But you know what? I actually don't mind wearing them because I love eyewear, sunglasses included.

Back in April, 2o13, I shared the collaboration look book of V+EL x Gentle Monster here: http://www.beyunique.com/2013/04/look-book-vel-x-gentle-monster.html. Gentle Monster is a Korean-eyewear brand that has been phenomenally popular throughout Asia, now in North America as they opened a flagship store in New York last February. When I went to Korea, I had a meeting with a street-style photographer who lives in Seoul and contributes to Vogue Magazine. After a pleasant chat about Seoul fashion, my Seoul searching still continued. I've found a couple of Gentle Monster stores in Seoul, one in Sinsa-doing and the other one in Hongdae. I absolutely fell in love with the flagship store in Sinsa because it's filled with amazingly creative and conceptual art objects, stylish glasses and sunglasses on a beautifully designed 4-story building. Here are some of photos I took from the flagship store.
